Facing Difficult Time

We are facing a difficult time.

It has become three months that I did not write anything. In the beginning I got busy completing my thesis as it was delayed a few years. Then, there was a massive earthquake that affects all of us in Nepal. My house collapsed together with many of my neighbors. I went back to my village at 3 times during this period and I made a temporary house (tent-like) for my mother. Everything was standstill during a month including the closed down of the offices and other services. There were earthquakes which the expert said its aftershocks. We remained outside the house in Kathmandu, for a week or more. It was a really very difficult time. Many people lost their life. Infrastructure and national heritages are collapsed within a minute time. We want to forget this situation which we cannot because of the evidence everywhere.
While our life started to become normal, we needed to rush to the hospital due to the severe pain in the stomach of my wife Sabina.  We stayed 3 days at hospital as Sabi needed to get operation of her gall bladder as there were multiple stones that caused severe pain. While writing this blog now, Sabi is recovering now and yesterday we went to the hospital again to take out the stitching.  At the same time my mother is suffering from fever. House collapsed; wife and mother seriously sick and my relatives are also homeless due to the earthquake. This is really very difficult time for us.

Why Violence to Women?

These days, there are frequent news about rape, sexual harassment and attack on girls. Girls are victim all the time. Even though they are doing their best on their own, people of criminal minds are not tolerating it. For those rapist and criminals there should be the punishment. There has to be a justice to all including girls (it covers child to women).  But we will have to look at the socio-economic, culture and our level of thinking to what happens to our daughter, mother, and sisters in our country Nepal. Why such kinds of violence are happening in our region? How can we prevent them? What are our roles to stop those kinds of violence? There are issues which come on the ground these days. There is a death of a 7 year old girl after she was a victim of rapist. It brings the demand of death penalty for such criminals. But will it help to stop the violence? For this we need to look at other countries which are implementing death penalty and still facing the problems. Our neighbor India can be the example. There are sad and bad news every day about such events. We need to look at our social values, and need to change it, if it will still bias to the women. Changing the law cannot stop such activities but changing our thought can be helpful.  I will continue to write about this issue in the future as well.

Visit to the Temple and Historical Place

In the last few days, I was not able to write anything as I was on short trip. On Wednesday, we (along with my wife Sabina) went to Manakamana Temple. On Thursday we remained stay at home as the office was off due to the national festival Holi. Friday, I was at my office and got busy all the day due to the absence of previous two days. On Saturday, we went to our village, and returned on Monday. On the way to our home at village, we visited Jalpadevi Temple in Devighat and Bairabi Temple as well as the historical place seven story palace (Saathtale Darbar) of King Prithivi Narayan Shah in Nuwakot.  This historical place is 7 kilometers from Bidur (Headquarters of Nuwakot District) and it is situated on the top of the hills and we can see all the direction from east to west to north to south or vice versa. It seems that King Prithivi Narayan Shah was very much intelligent person who planned to make his palace at this very high area where other people cannot come and attack him easily.

At the time of King Prithivi Narayan Shah, there were 22-24 states and they were fighting each other to expand their territory. King Prithivi was the one who won all the states and made the one state/ one country/one nation and we Nepali as a result of his contribution call him the father of modern Nepal. He has the good name in the History. He united the nations and we are very much thankful to him.

I will put some of the pictures of that historical place in my future blogs.

Pollution, Population and Poor People

On Friday, I traveled in the afternoon. A day before, there was rain, however Friday was sunny day. I drove my motorcycle nearly two hours; and during that time I felt suffocation due to the long traffic jam and pollution. Even in the afternoon, there was a long line of jam on the street and it was very difficult to ride a bike. I normally drive maximum 10 Kilo meters a day for my office and home. But at that day, I needed to drive more than two hours. And all most all the time, there was big pollution. Roads are under construction.  I think, there is no proper management of drainage system to pass the rain water. It seems that rain water brings the mud on the street and it covers the whole surrounding while the vehicles run on those muddy roads.

I think pollution increases due to the increase of the population. There is lack of proper management due to the poor people in the management and bureaucracy. We have to plan and execute any action as per the plan.

I will continue my writing about this topic in my future blog. I need to stop it now as I have other urgent work.

Jeff Goins Inspiring Blog

I read Jeff Goins blog today. I am reading his blog regularly as it gives the insight and the inspiration to do something in life. He explained how he becomes a professional writer in his blog. When they (Jeff and his wife) decided to have a child, Mrs Jeff needed to stay at home to become mom and Jeff had to work hard to sustain not only for them but also for the new coming baby. He worked hard. He continuously worked hard on his passion to become a writer and within 18 months, he published number of books and he finally gets success and doubled his income. In his hard work he substitutes the income of his wife and at the same time he becomes a professional writer and he is now a full time writer and living his life from his writing. I don’t know whether such case will happen or not to me. But I reveal that we are also planning to have a baby however we still would like to continue our job as it will be difficult for us to manage our daily life. I am supporting Sabi (my wife) as we both are working and I know I have to take care of her much more than normal once we decide to have a child.
I also plan to work hard. I am not a full time writer and I know I am just beginning to explore my story to the world. In the beginning, this will not be easy. I do not care about anything. I just plan to write. Whatever comes in my mind, I try to write. However at this moment, this is just my passion and I know I cannot give much more time. I have to give full time at my office where I have to give my hundred percent efforts. At the same time, I have to be a very supporting and caring husband at my home. Sabi works hard than I do and she deserves more rest and her physical condition is also weaker than mine. I don’t mean she has got problem. But she has to ride her scooter nearly a 25 kilo meters day in a bumpy road everyday which is itself a tiresome work. At the same time she gets busy all the day at her office, from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM. So I have time to read and write at night after our meal.
We are happy in our life and doing our best. But we have to still work hard for our coming generation. So we are very much careful in each and every action that we take now.

Mother Loves to Stay at Village

I asked my mother to join us to live together. She is at my village. She is happy there to stay alone. She is active and doing all the farming works. She is busy from early morning to the late evening. Once mother will be with us, I think we will have more fun. But I know I cannot force my mother to bring in the city. City is full of people and this place will be very difficult for her. I know it will be very suffocating to her. She tells me that, “I cannot go outside as I don’t know how to cross the road. Even if I go outside I cannot come back to the place due to the so many ways.” She does not have the habit of the city as it is normal that she has spent rest of her life in the village. According to my mother, she was just 9 year old at the time of marriage. She spent few years with my grandmother after marriage and came to home (marriage home) in about 12-13 years. Then she has been living there continuously till now. She is now 67. Among six children, we four are survived and two have passed away after two months. At that time, it was very difficult for mother as she got the problem of bleeding for several months. There was not the hospital in the village and we all the children are born at our own home instead of hospital. I know many people still give birth to their child at their home instead of visiting hospital. My village is not that much far from the city. 10-15 KM far from the city and the capital city is not farther than 80 KM.

I will write more about my village, if you (reader) are interested. I will even place the few pictures of village. This is the way of my village.

A Praiseworthy Marriage

A Praiseworthy Marriage

On last Friday, I attended a wedding ceremony of Ms. Laxmi Khanal and Sagar Prasai. Laxmi is an Electrical Engineer working full time at Nepal Telecommunications. She is about to complete her master’s degree in Rural Development as well. Sager is working at an INGO and runs his own NGO as well. They both love to work for the social welfare. This wedding is a bit strange in the eyes of the most common people not only in Nepal, but in other part of the world as well. Laxmi decided to get married with Sager who is differently able person. He needs wheel chair for the movement. According to Laxmi he has got that problem from his birth. I know that Sagar is able to do many works and he is performing it since long. I read his articles, and his views on the news paper. In the decision of Laxmi, her entire family and relatives supported her. I would like to say: GOD BLESS YOU BOTH. Common people cannot think out of the tradition and such type of action needs more courage and willingness to act. Laxmi is the one who dare to go beyond this tradition.

Here is the picture of them.

Be Happy in Life

Be Happy in Life

When I connect with great minds, I feel amazing and thrill by their ideas. I normally connect with them through their views on articles, books, and quotations and so on. When I read them, I become fresh and I see the world beautiful. It’s really beautiful because of them. They always see the world through their positive perspective. That is why; I read them regularly to fresh my mind, to live my life peacefully and beautifully. They never tell you not to long for the worldly material possession, but they are always focusing on the passion that we have. Yes they also advise us to work hard, to take our action continuously, and to get success. At the same time they are also advising us to be content with what we have. They teach us to live our life in peace even when we have fewer things. They are always careful in each and every matter and they never take anything for granted. Even for small matter, they take it responsibly. Life should not be taken for granted. That includes everything such as health, family, job, and education and so on. Everything is important in life. They suggest us to keep balance on each and every part of our life. We should not ignore to anyone. They all are interrelated to each other. So we have to take care and should not take it for granted. I read the books and articles of the following writers. I listed a few in numbers and there are long list which I will try to post in the future as well. I do read the books of Robin Sharma, Birendra Kapoor, Zig Zilan, Shiva Khera etc.
Those who are interested please read them. They will change your thinking in life. They will help you to live your life in the better way than in the past.

Experience of My Life

Experience of My Life
Hope this can be a lesson to you as well.
I read somewhere else that we see the world not as it is, but as we see it ourselves. We define our own world. We look it from our own perspective. Even our perspective changes when the situation changes. When I was at my school in my village, I had my different view of this world than I have now. At that time, my teachers were the only people who were/are imparting knowledge. They were/are the hero in our surrounding. I still respect them and I will always do. But the context change and my horizon also change. I came to the capital city Kathmandu and started to struggle to continue my education. I had to work and I had to continue my education. Till my high school graduation, I was not familiar to this place. It was really terrible to survive. I didn’t know anything about transportation facilities, location, and the types of job that I can do. Due to the lack of my knowledge, I traveled twice to reach the same place.
I worked hard. Whatever I did, I gave my hundred percent. Whatever I got, I accepted. It was very difficult situation. I was not able to study. I worked 14 hours a day. But I never quit my hope to study. In the morning when I saw group of students going to the college, I was working to join my hand and mouth. So few years, I postponed my education plan. It was not possible to bring anything from my home rather I needed to send the money to my mother at my village. So there were not any other options rather to stop my study few years. My mother has done great struggle to send me to school to see my high school graduation.
When I was six years, my father passed away. I have little image of him sleeping at our yard during his sickness. It was very difficult to us to take him to the hospital and as far as I know, we sold our few pieces of land to take him to the hospital. But that didn’t do any good to him. My mother and two sisters worked hard to survive in the absence of our father. Among my three sisters the eldest one was got married already before our father died. Remaining two sisters, mother and I were the family members. My sisters didn’t go to school so they went to work in the village. They all supported for our daily meal and for my education.
I don’t remember the exact date of marriage of my second sister, but I still remember that she after her marriage also supported us very much. Her house was not far from us. It was in the same village. She supported to make the roof of my house by putting the stone roof in place of grass. That helped us to stay under the safe house. Otherwise there were the conditions of coming water inside and difficult to stay during the rainy season. Mom used to go to collect the grass to replace the old roof each year.
My third sister also got marriage before I passed my school leaving certificate and she has now 3 children. The eldest daughter is now 14. My mother is alone at my village and it has been 15 years.
I will continue it in my future blog.
Despite the hardship and struggle, I completed my mater level study and got marriage last year. We both work and live here in Kathmandu. It’s okay. It’s not bad. We are happy. I asked my mom to come and stay with us together. But she is happy to be in the village. She is now 66. She is still working there. She has got big number of cattle’s I guess 3, 17 goats, and dozens of chickens. I am going my village normally within a month or two. I am in touch with my mother in daily basis. In the morning when I wake up, I call her. And in the afternoon as well I talk to her frequently. Normally I speak to her 3-4 times a day. I know, I am here in this position because of her and I never forget her hard word and pain that she bear for me. I always love her.
I know everyone has his/her own story in life. I share it through my blog. I learnt many lesson from my mother that never Lose Hope. Believe in Hard Word. Do it continuously and one day you will get success. I will keep on posting it in the future as well.

Australia

Difficult Criteria of Australian Institutions to Nepalese Students
Australia granted 404000 students visa in total in 2014 (www.icef.com).  Many Nepalese students are also applying, studying and settling in Australia. Unlike from developed countries students, Nepalese students have to show the evidence to prove their financial capacity to the Universities and Visa Office. Additionally, they have to prove the genuineness of their intention to study. This is a normal process. It has to be there.  Even visa office and universities and colleges required students to show the funds only from two banks of Nepal among 32 banks. They are Nabil and SBI Bank Ltd. They have strict criteria some of which are the following:
1)      Property should touch the 10 feet street, otherwise you will not be able to secure a loan
2)      Property has to be in the name of student’s parent (third party collateral cannot be accepted)
3)      Even if property touched the road/street, it has to be closer the to the bank (branch)
4)      Students have to show the source of income from Nepal only. They cannot show the funds from the income of their family who are working abroad
5)      Even if students meet the criteria, it takes at 1-2 months to process the loan
I would like to concentrate this article about the issue of offer letter in the beginning and refusal at the end. Many universities and colleges issue offer letters to the students based on the academic documents, English Language test and the experience. They even issue an offer for those students who have got long gap year. After receiving an offer, students prepare their financial documents and one of them is the preparation of loan from the above mentioned any one of those two banks. During this process students have to invest a lot of money, time and energy. They need to visit municipal office, banks, police station to make police report, they need to visit notary public to translate and attest their documents, and they have to make the no objection letter as well. In the hope of getting acceptance letter from the University, they prepare all the documents. Once they are ready, send their document to the college or university to get the final approval. But the same university starts to questions the students and withdraws their offer. Students become sad, lose hope, and lose money and time. So if possible Australian Institutions have to screen the students in the beginning and prevent this loss. I know there are some universities which are doing such investigation in the begging and based on the findings, they issue offer letters. But many universities issues offer and withdraw those offers at the end. That gave the negative impression to the students and agents. I know this is a common problem to Nepalese students and agents.
This is true that Australia needs rich and brilliant students to their institutions who can bring the money for the expenses. That is fair enough plan. Each country in the world has their right to make it better and smart. But my sincere request to them is, please screen in the beginning and take them. This process will help the students to prevent their loss of time, money and energy.

Australia Deports 224 Nepali Students
Pay Attention those who are planning to go to study in Australia
While writing this blog, I come to know that Australia recently deported 224 Nepalese students because of their bad intention to join another institution. Initially they joined at the universities and to save their money, they tried to change their provider (low cost, private college). Based on their intention to cheat, they went to the University and to make money they quit the study. That is the consequence they face. This happens to Indian, Chinese and other countries students as well. So those students, who plan to go to Australia for study, be serious on your study only. If you are not able to finance for your study, please search other options please.

Useful Moral Story

NEVER FEEL DEJECTED

Once there was a guy who was in love with a girl. She was not most beautiful and gorgeous but for him, she was everything. He used to dream about her; about spending rest of life with her. His friends told him, “Why do you dream so much about her, when you don’t even know if she loves you or not? First tell her your feelings, and get to know if she likes you or not.”

He felt that, that was the right way. The girl knew from the beginning, that this guy loves her. One day when he proposed, she rejected him. His friends thought he would take alcohol; drugs etc and ruin his life. To their surprise, he was not depressed. When they asked him how was it that he is not sad, he replied, “Why should I feel bad? I lost one who never loved me and she lost the one who really loved her”.

Moral: True love it hard to get. Love is all about giving to other person without greed of gaining anything in return. If other person rejects it, it is him/her who will be losing the important thing in life. So never feel dejected.

Problems in Life

Problems in Life

After each problem that I face in my life, they pass on. That is why people say “Situation never stay the same”. They always leave me a lesson to become a better person and help me to prevent the future loss. They help me to become better person in life. So I do not worry about the present situation. I know this will soon pass as the time passes. So I see the problem as an opportunity in my life. In this case, each day, I am learning new way of my life, new way of my work, and new way of my thinking. So I never fear of the problem which comes to my life. It does not mean I do not suffer. I am a human being. I do suffer, feel the pain, try to hide and afraid with the difficult situation. I always fear when I get problems. But I do not fear to face them.
People who face so many problems in life become better person. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross says “The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggle, known loss and have found their way out of the depts. These persons have an appreciation, sensitivity and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen”.
This is true and I do agree with this statement. Life really gives us beautiful lesson to learn and relearn. So we have to face the challenges and take it as an opportunity to improve our knowledge. So do not panic with the difficult situation which is not in your favor.
As always, thank you very much for your time to read my blog.

Competition

Competition
There is competition everywhere. It should be there as the customer can take the advantages of it. But it has to be in a fair and ethical manner. There should not be the unnecessary and unethical practices in any field. There are similar types of businesses and the services and the customers have their right to choose anyone of them. Each business and organization has their own way to deal with the customer. Even the same services and same prices, people chose different organization. There are several factors to choose the products even though the products and fees same. I think there are few things which I can mention in the following paragraphs;
1)    Customer Care

This is the first and for most reason that people chose your business if you care your customer honestly, promptly, and ethically. You always need to put your customer first. Be honest to them. Try to help them for each and every service that they require. Your business and your job are there because of them. So keep in mind that no customers; no business and jobs. So your prime goal all the time has to be your service to your customer. You have to be ready all the time to support them.

2)    Your Employee

There is a saying that No train No gain. So you have to train your employee to perform the world class customer care. At the same time, you have to keep your employee to very happy to you. If he/she is happy with you and your organization, they will work hard for you. Respect them. Reward them and give them the chance to upgrade their performance. Trust them. If you cannot make them happy, they may not work hard for you and for your organization. You need to share the benefits of the organization. You need to allocate the budget for the employee development as well.

3)    Your Quality of Service

This is very important factor in the business. The information, services or products that you are going to sell should have the best quality. For this you need to be updated. It means you need to research and find the right information that is important for your customer. Good services do not mean the poor and expired knowledge that you share. Up to date and firsthand information has to be there with you. You need to look at what is happening in the market and you need to make strategies to tackle the present needs of the market.

4)    Your Price

It also matters a lot. I already mentioned in the above beginning paragraph that people are very much conscious about money. It of course gives value. So you need to look at the price of your competitor in the market. And you need to set it accordingly to retain your customer and your business.

5)    Take your business Seriously

We know that the big companies shout down in the very short span of time. There is a recent example of the Nokia Company. As per the report, in 2010-11 Nokia has the 40 percent market share in the mobile phone. But at the end of the 2014, company closed down and no longer exists in the market. How did this happen? This is because of the plan, strategy, and polity that management takes. Other companies came in the market with new applications and new trend and Nokia remained stay the same. So they started to lose their business and at the end they decided to close down the company. (I read the article at Project Syndicate about a month ago and I acquired this information).
So we have to take our business seriously and need to follow the new trends of the market to sustain our business. If we keep on doing our business in the same manner that we do in the last year, we may not retain our customer which are interdependent to our business. So we need to be very careful in our business.
We should not sleep by saying that we are big in the market. We are the brand in the market. We need to strive and keep on doing our hard word. That will only keep our name in the market.

This is my personal experience based on the work that I do. This is my understanding and people have their own way of doing business. However what I assume is, those components which I mentioned above are the necessary in the business. I know there are brilliant ideas in the world. There are big companies and they have supper performance.

As usual if you have your own ideas, please share it to the public so that we can all benefits from your ideas as well.

Thank you very much as usual.

My Opinion on Valentine’s Day

My Opinion on Valentine’s Day

The World becomes like a Village due the change that technology brings. Any events that happen in one corner now can spreads in a matter of seconds to the other corner of the world. This helps people to know the culture of each other. Due to the information that we acquire from the mine of information technology, we are familiar with so many events. Among them Valentine’s Day is the one which becomes a celebrating festival in Nepal as well. Yes, we are hearing about the globalization and its trend and we also become a part of it. We cannot deny the change that the world brings to us. So I do not argue about whether to celebrate it or not.

Valentine’s Day, Happy Birthday, Happy Marriage Anniversary, etc are not the tradition and culture of the Western Countries only. They are now becoming the Global tradition, culture, and norms of all types of society. So we cannot deny this fact in our society in Nepal. It’s nice to be happy, to eat delicious food, to visit beautiful places, to take and give beautiful gifts. It’s even best when you win the heart of your dear ones. But I have reservation on our style to celebrate it. While following other culture, we should not ignore and devalue our own culture, system of society, norms and our tradition. Our culture, our tradition, our norms are our identity. Without our culture and identity, we will become identity less. So we have to preserve and celebrate our festival as well. We will not become modern by celebrating the imported tradition and ignoring our own. So we have to celebrate our own festivals as we do it in our own way and styles. Those reflect our own identity.

I see the politics in each and every festival. Each festival has socio-economic relations in the society. During Valentine’s Day, we buy gifts that help the business to grow. But we never thought of the gifts that we buy are imported and our money is going abroad. Instead of buying gifts that was made abroad, if we could buy our own products (I mean Nepali Products), I think we can retain our money in Nepal itself. I don’t know whether we can do this or not. I don’t know whether there are manufacturer or not to produce such gift items in Nepal. But if we desire it, we can use any thing as a gift and we can utilize it. So from next time on-wards, we have to think in this way as well.
PS: I encourage you all to have your opinion as well. I kindly request you not to use abusive words in your writing. You can disagree and give your reason in a proper way. I am always happy to have your positive input.

Thanking you in advance.

News Analysis

http://www.ekantipur.com/np/2071/10/29/full-story/403671.html

I read the news article from above link and writing this blog about this.

My analysis on the News

I just read news which says that five thousand Nepalese are submitting their application to become refugee in Japan. As the Japan became a bit flexible to grant students visa from last few years (I guess 2 years), there are now approximately 40000 Nepalese populations in Japan, the news report says. Among them, there are 35% people who lodged their application to get the status of refugee.
In the past also there was similar news from UK. In 2009-11, huge number of Nepalese students entered in the UK and many of them went to Portugal in order to get the residence permit which was according the news report, through refugee’s application. Many students were cheated by the bogus colleges in the UK. UKBA shut down those colleges and requested the international students to join another institution. However that was not possible to join another college because of the fees. Many students didn’t get back their money because of the closure of the colleges. UK government did not and still does not have that powerful law in favor of international students. I will write in this issue in my future blogs. I now want to concentrate on the trends of Nepalese students and visitors.

Why they wish to extend their stay? Why they want to settle down there? Why not coming back to the home country Nepal?
We say Nepal is a developing country. Though slowly, we agree that we are progressing. This is not because of the vision of the leader of my country or because of the far sighted bureaucrat; this is because of the trend of the globalization and the technology. People are aware in each and every sector and they find that there is no scope and future in our country. They compare everything with the developed nations and not getting anything as they expect. So, they want to leave the country. Once they leave, they do not plan to come back. They can work hard there. They can make money and they see their future there. Then in order to settle down over there, they start to look at so many ways there and find this refugee scheme fascinating to them through which they can settle down. In my opinion, this happens because of our poverty, not our physical poverty only, our mental poverty as well. We have trend not to work hard in our country and ready to work hard in another country. Obviously there are differences in between currency and monetary gain. But we never look at the expenses side. All the nations in the world developed gradually, and they have also had a situation like our situation in the past. How they are there now and why not us? This is because of their hard work, dedication, determination, continuous effort, good politician, good policy and good system. We have trend to blame other people. We have to be responsible as well. I think this trend will go on for long until and unless we make our nation to live peacefully. There has to be a hope first. In order to arouse a hope, there has to be a good system to follow. We should have a vision to make our country better. I also agree that the key to develop the nations are the ruling parties (political parties), which are always in the power. In the democratic political system there is multi-party system and the government always keeps on changing. They just want to impose their own interest in the country. What I want is, they should have a common goal, consensus goal to develop the nation. Whichever party comes at the government, the major projects should continue. They should compete to bring the new development in the nation. That is how we can expect our country to become a prosperous in the near future. Otherwise we cannot be anywhere. We will be in the same situation and our condition still will be worse.

Thanks for your time to read.
